Art Institute of Chicago Entry Tickets

The Modern Wing is a purpose-built addition to the Art Institute designed by architect Renzo Piano, opened in 2009. The Thorne Miniature Rooms, 68 hand-crafted interiors at 1:12 scale, are among the most visited spaces. The Modern Wing houses significant works by Picasso, Matisse, and contemporary artists. The free daily highlights tours at 13:00 and 15:00 run approximately 45 minutes and cover the essential works. The Art Institute is at 111 South Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL 60603, in Grant Park on the lakefront. By CTA, the Blue and Red Lines stop at Jackson, and the Brown, Green, Orange, Pink, and Purple Lines stop at Adams. Buses 3, 4, 6, 14, and 26 stop on Michigan Avenue. Metra Electric District trains stop at Millennium Station. Discounted parking is available at the Millennium Garages, bookable in advance via SpotHero. The museum is one minute from Millennium Park and Cloud Gate.

The Art Institute is closed on Mondays. Tuesday through Friday it opens at 10:30 and closes at 17:00, except Thursdays when it stays open until 20:00. Saturday and Sunday hours are 10:00 to 17:00. The first hour daily from 10:00 to 11:00 is reserved for members. The museum is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. Hours may vary during special events.

The Art Institute has two dining options open year-round to all visitors with a ticket or membership. The Cafe on the lower level offers seasonal dishes including sandwiches, salads, and desserts. The Modern Bar in the Modern Wing offers lighter fare plus a full coffee, tea, and beverage menu. Terzo Piano, a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant on the third floor of the Modern Wing, is available to members and their guests and requires advance reservations for weekend lunch. Outside food and beverages except sealed reusable water bottles are not permitted in the galleries.
