Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park Entry Tickets Overview

Disney's Blizzard Beach opened in 1995 built around one of the most entertainingly absurd premises in the Disney theme park canon. The story goes that a freak Florida snowstorm led to the construction of a ski resort on Mount Gushmore. When temperatures returned to normal and the snow began to melt, the resort's operators discovered that the melting ski slopes had become extraordinary water slides, and Blizzard Beach was born.

That founding premise is carried through every detail of the park. The ski jump that towers over the park is Summit Plummet, a 120-foot near-vertical body slide that drops riders at up to 60 mph, making it one of the fastest water slides in the world. A chairlift carries riders to the summit of Mount Gushmore from where the slide's terrifying approach is visible to everyone in the park below. The digital speed readout at the bottom of the slide after each run adds a final competitive element.

Teamboat Springs is the counterpoint to Summit Plummet's extremity. Widely regarded as the greatest family raft ride at any water park in the world, it carries up to six riders in a circular raft through 1,400 feet of continuous white-water channels, waterfalls, and themed landscaping. It is the longest family raft ride in existence. Slush Gusher, Runoff Rapids, and Snow Stormers add additional slide options across a range of intensities. Downhill Double Dipper is a timed racing slide.

Cross Country Creek is a 3,000-foot lazy river that circumnavigates the entire park, passing through a manufactured snow cave section that adds a genuinely surprising temperature drop mid-float. Melt-Away Bay is the wave pool, generating gentle rolling waves. Tike's Peak is a fully themed children's area with mini versions of every major slide category, designed for children under 48 inches.

Blizzard Beach reopened February 15 2026 after its annual refurbishment and remains open through the winter and summer season. From September 9 2026 onward, Typhoon Lagoon closes and Blizzard Beach becomes the sole operating Disney water park.

FAQs

1Is Blizzard Beach suitable for young children?

Yes, though the park's strong emphasis on thrill slides means some planning is needed for families with young children. Tike's Peak provides a comprehensive children's area with no height requirements for those under 48 inches. The Cross Country Creek lazy river and Melt-Away Bay wave pool are accessible to all ages with complimentary life jackets available at self-serve racks throughout the park. Several headline attractions including Summit Plummet and Slush Gusher have minimum height requirements. Reviewing individual slide restrictions before your visit is recommended to set accurate expectations for younger guests.

2What is Tike's Peak at Blizzard Beach?

Tike's Peak is Blizzard Beach's dedicated children's water play area, featuring miniature versions of the park's headline slides and attractions scaled for younger visitors. The area is designed for children under 48 inches and includes a snow castle play structure, shallow splash pools, interactive water features, and small body slides and raft rides. There are no minimum height requirements within Tike's Peak and all attractions are designed for independent use by younger children with parental supervision. It is one of the most comprehensive toddler water areas at any Florida water park.

3What is Summit Plummet at Blizzard Beach?

Summit Plummet is the signature attraction at Blizzard Beach and one of the tallest and fastest body slides in the world. Riders take the chairlift to the summit of Mount Gushmore, visible from miles around, and drop 120 feet at a near-vertical 62-degree angle, reaching speeds of up to 60 mph. The experience lasts only a few seconds but the approach from the chairlift and the viewing area at the top significantly build the anticipation. A digital speed readout at the bottom of the slide after each run tells riders their exact speed. A minimum height of 48 inches is required.

4How does Blizzard Beach differ from Typhoon Lagoon?

Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon each have distinct strengths. Blizzard Beach is the stronger thrill park, anchored by Summit Plummet, one of the world's fastest free-fall body slides, and Teamboat Springs, the world's longest family raft ride. Typhoon Lagoon is the stronger family and wave pool park, with a Surf Pool generating six-foot waves that significantly outperforms Blizzard Beach's Melt-Away Bay. Both parks have comparable lazy rivers and dedicated children's areas. From September 9 2026, Typhoon Lagoon closes and Blizzard Beach operates as the sole Disney water park.

5Can Blizzard Beach close due to weather?

Yes. Blizzard Beach may close or partially close if air temperatures are forecast to drop below approximately 55 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit, as the water experiences become uncomfortable at low outdoor temperatures. Lightning within the vicinity also pauses water attractions until the storm passes. In these cases, the park typically remains open with non-water activities available but the slides and pools close until conditions improve. Always check the My Disney Experience app for current park status on the morning of your visit, particularly during cooler months.

6Is Blizzard Beach included with a Walt Disney World theme park ticket?

No. A standard Walt Disney World theme park ticket does not include Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon. Separate water park admission requires a dedicated single-day water park ticket, the Park Hopper Plus add-on to a multi-day theme park ticket, or an annual pass tier that includes water park access. Disney Resorts Collection hotel guests in 2026 receive complimentary water park admission on their check-in day only, from May 26 through September 8. No park reservation is required for Blizzard Beach and parking is free.

7What is Teamboat Springs at Blizzard Beach?

Teamboat Springs is widely regarded as the greatest family white-water raft ride at any water park in the world. A circular raft carrying up to six riders travels through 1,400 feet of continuous white-water channels, waterfalls, and themed landscaping on a journey that lasts significantly longer than most raft rides in the industry. There is no minimum height requirement and no intense drops, making it the ideal experience for families traveling with guests across a wide range of ages and thrill comfort levels. Teamboat Springs consistently draws the second-longest queues after Summit Plummet.

8What dining options are available at Blizzard Beach?

Blizzard Beach has multiple dining options across the park. Lottawatta Lodge is the main counter-service restaurant serving burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, chicken, and desserts, with mobile ordering available through the My Disney Experience app. Avalunch and The Warming Hut provide additional quick-service options throughout the park. Frostbite Freddy's Frozen Freshments and Cooling Hut serve ice cream, frozen drinks, and lighter snacks. Complimentary towels are available at Beach Haus. Towel and locker rentals are also available. Private cabanas with shade and service can be reserved in advance at an additional cost.
